Some links have vague or unhelpful wording

What this means for your business

Some links on your page just say "click here" or "read more" — Google and screen readers can't tell where they lead. Descriptive link text helps both search rankings and accessibility.

How to fix it
Easy
20–30 minutes

  1. 1Find links on your pages that say "click here", "read more", "here", or "learn more" — these give no context about where they go.
  2. 2Replace vague link text with descriptive text that explains the destination: "click here" → "read our return policy" or "see pricing plans".
  3. 3Scan your page content for all links and check each one: would someone know where it goes just by reading the link text out loud?
  4. 4For image links (where the image is inside an <a> tag), make sure the image has a descriptive alt attribute that describes the destination.
  5. 5Keep link text concise — 2–5 words is usually enough. Avoid using the full URL as link text.

On WordPress

Use the built-in link editor in Gutenberg or Classic Editor. Click on any link and update the display text. The Yoast SEO plugin also highlights generic link text in its content analysis.

On Shopify

Edit link text directly in your page/blog content editor. Click on links to update their display text in the rich text editor.
