Your page is missing the extra behind-the-scenes information that helps Google display richer search results — like star ratings, prices, FAQs, or event dates — directly in search. These rich results stand out and drive significantly more clicks.

  1. 1Structured data (Schema markup) tells Google extra information about your page — like product prices, reviews, business hours, or FAQ answers — which can appear directly in search results.
  2. 2Choose the right schema type for your page: LocalBusiness for a physical business, Product for product pages, Article for blog posts, FAQ for pages with questions and answers.
  3. 3Add JSON-LD structured data in a <script type="application/ld+json"> block in the <head>. Use Google's Structured Data Markup Helper (search "Google rich results test") to generate the code.
  4. 4Validate your markup at search.google.com/test/rich-results — it shows errors and what rich result features you're eligible for.
  5. 5Start with FAQ schema if you have any Q&A content — it's the fastest to implement and shows up prominently in search results.
  6. 6For local businesses, add LocalBusiness schema with your name, address, phone, hours, and geographic coordinates.

On WordPress

Install Rank Math (free) — it automatically adds appropriate schema to every page type. You can also configure specific schema per page in the Rank Math sidebar in the editor.

On Shopify

Shopify themes automatically include Product schema for product pages. For other schema types, use the JSON-LD for SEO app or add custom schema via a theme code snippet.

Pro tip: FAQ schema is the easiest high-impact schema to add and often appears as an expandable section directly in Google search results, dramatically increasing click-through rates.
