Page files are not compressed for faster delivery

What this means for your business

Text content on your page isn't being compressed before it's sent to visitors' browsers, adding unnecessary load time on every visit.

How to fix it
Easy
15–30 minutes

  1. 1Text compression (Gzip or Brotli) shrinks your HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files by 60–80% before they're sent to visitors. It's a server setting — no changes to your site content needed.
  2. 2Contact your hosting provider and ask them to enable Gzip or Brotli — it's a quick server configuration change that takes minutes.
  3. 3If you use Cloudflare (free plan), go to Speed → Optimization and turn on Gzip and Brotli. This works regardless of your hosting provider.
  4. 4To confirm it's working, run your URL through GTmetrix (gtmetrix.com) and look for Gzip or Brotli listed under compression.

On WordPress

Most managed WordPress hosts (WP Engine, Kinsta, SiteGround) enable Gzip by default. If yours doesn't, WP Rocket or Autoptimize can enable it. Alternatively, enable it via Cloudflare for free.

On Shopify

Shopify enables Gzip automatically for all stores — this issue appearing on a Shopify site is unusual and may indicate a third-party proxy in front of the store.

Pro tip: Enabling Brotli (available on most modern servers) typically compresses 15–20% better than Gzip. Enable it instead of Gzip if your server supports it.
